ITINERARY
DAY 1: CUSCO – MALAGA PASS – SANTA MARIA
You will be picked up at approximately 7.50am outside Loki. You will
then be driven through the stunning Sacred Valley and dropped off at the
3200m high San Luis. Here you will change into the biking kit provided (gloves
and helmet) and receive a 20 minute briefing by your tour guide. Then
the fun commences… freewheeling down quiet but challenging roads, past
changing landscapes, you will not want to catch your breath until the
first picnic stop in Alfamayo three hours from your starting point. Here
you will enjoy your lunch, while taking in the panoramic views After a
quick change and a dab of insect repellant, it is onwards and downwards
towards Huamanmarca, site of a recently discovered archaeological Inca
finding where your tour guide will provide you with its historical
background. You will then carry on descending to 1500 meters, while the
jungle´s edge rears up to the small but charming town of Santa Maria.
Here you can browse the internet, buy snack or just rest your legs and
enjoy a cold beer before a dinner of traditional Peruvian food. Here you
will stay in a family run hostel and sleep in either single, double or
triple rooms (Hostel Choquequirao).
DAY 2 : SANTA MARIA – QELLOMAYO – SANTA TERESA
You will wake up at around 6.30am, shake off your weary limbs and enjoy
the finest indigenous coffee prepared by your landlady for a 6.30am
breakfast. Under dawn skies you will begin your walk, which gets
progressively steeper, until arriving at a welcoming family restaurant
in Santa Maria where you can relax in hammocks, admiring the coca
plantations and receive refreshments whilst being entertained by the
family monkey. After a short walk you will reach a traditional Inca
Trail, which winds around precipitous slopes and sheer drops for
approximately half a mile. The descent continues for just over two hours
until you reach Qellomayo, a small town, where you will have lunch.
From Qellomayo it is a short walk beside the Rio Vilcanota until
reaching the famous hot springs of Colcamayo. Here you can rejuvenate in
the hot waters and relax in these natural settings. After relaxing in
the hot springs you will carry on to Santa Teresa where you will spend
the night (Hostel Machu Picchu).
DAY 3: SANTA TERESA – HIDROELECTRICA – AGUAS CALIENTES
You will wake up and have breakfast at around 7am. After breakfast you
will walk to Colpani taking in the views until you reach the
restaurant where you will have lunch at the Hidroelectrica. From here it
is only about a two and a half hour flat walk to Aguas Calientes, the
base town for Machu Picchu.
Included is dinner at a local restaurant before retiring to your hostel
with hot water and private bathrooms.

DAY 4: AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHUPICCHU - CUSCO
Around 4am we will get ready to hike up to the ruins of Machu Picchu via
a route through the jungle having the opportunity to catch sunrise by
arriving at the gates of the park at approx 6. 20am where we can
appreciate the arrival of the sun if we are lucky. We will then continue
our visit of the park with a guided tour of the ruins by our tour guide
(approx 2 hours). After the tour we will have free time to ourselves to
enjoy the ruins before descending back down to Aguas Calientes to take
our return train back to Ollantaytambo . We will be met by our transfer
where we will then catch the tourist bus back to Cusco.
